BCL-favoured farm wins Tk 86.6m tender in Rangamati

RANGAMATI, May 05: The ruling party men today (Wednesday) allegedly snatched away a tender of about Tk 90 million of Public Works Department (PWD), Rangamati office, through negotiation for Tk 3.0 million, depriving genuine bidders.
PWD of Rangamati office invited tenders {no-26 (2009-2010)} for construction of a six-story barrack building for the police at Betbunia for Tk 86.6 million under the project Construction of Ten Barrack Buildings for Police.
The authority sold a total of 62 schedules -- 50 at Rangamati and 12 in Chittagong office. However, BCL men allowed dropping of only four bids.
National Development Engineer (NDE), Gulshan, Dhaka quoted lowest bid of Tk 7,85,63,347.
The other three farms are: Khandaker Business International, 4 Segunbagicha, Dhaka, who quoted Tk 11, 58,19,340.20; QH Masud & Con, Mirpur, Dhaka of Tk 8,65,40,593.45 and M/S Tara Construction, Mohammadpur, Dhaka of Tk 12,24,85,411.
Construction farm NDE has got the contract as the lowest bidder, PWD office sources said.
Most of the bidders who came to Rangamati from Chittagong and capital city couldn't drop their bids as the leaders and activists of Bangladesh Chhatra League resisted them.
