A member of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL), injured in a clash in Mymensingh on Monday, died at Mymensingh Medical College Hospital on Tuesday. The dead is Saad Ibne Mamtaz, a student of Bangladesh Agricultural University (BAU) and organising secretary of a hall unit of the BCL, the student wing of Awami League. Police said Saad sustained injuries when two rival groups clashed around 11pm on Monday. He was rushed to the MMCH where he succumbed around 11am on Tuesday. BAU student affairs counsellor Sultan Uddin Bhuiyan claimed that Saad was organising secretary of a hall unit of the BCL. Mymensingh’s Kotwali Police Station OC Golam Sarowar also said that he was a BAU unit BCL leader. Sarowar said he was injured in a clash yesterday and succumbed to his injuries at the MMCH at about 11am today. However, the BAU unit BCL denied any role in the clash. “We don’t know who had clashed with whom and Chhatra League has no connection with it. The Chhatra League is not responsible for the death,” said BCL’s BAU unit president Morsheduzzaman Babu, according to bdnews24.com.
