BCL man knifed dead, AL leader injured

A Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) activist was knifed to death and local Awami League leader shot and injured by miscreants in separate incidents in Jessore on Monday night. Local people said some miscreants, equipped with sharp weapons, swooped on Saifullah, a student of class XII of Jessore Upashahar Degree College and a BCL activist, while going to Bashpatti adjacent to Jessore Collectorate Building to buy books around 8:30pm, leaving him critically injured. Some pedestrians rescued him and rushed him to Jessore Medical College Hospital (JMCH) where the doctor declared him dead. Saifullah, 20, was the son of Siddiqur Rahman of Mubarakpur village of Monirampur Upazila. In another incident, Faridul Islam Farid, joint secretary of Jessore Sadar Upazila unit of Awami League, was shot and injured in front of his home at Churamonkati in Sadar Upazila in the evening. Locals rescued him and admitted him to JMCH in critical condition, according to a news agency.
