BCL men attacked Beg, his nieces: DU authorities

A group of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) activists attacked and injured Director of Beg Art Foundation Imtiaz Alam Beg and his two nieces at Dhaka University (DU) on Wednesday. The DU authorities have identified the attackers. They said four students, all 1st year students and members of the university’s Shahidullah Hall BCL unit, swooped on Beg Art Foundation’s Director Imtiaz Alam Beg and his two nieces when they were sitting by a pond inside the Shahidullah Hall premises, adjacent to the DU’s Curzon Hall. Beg later lodged a complaint with Shahbagh Police Station accusing four unknown youths. The four attackers were identified by the DU authorities as  Faruk Hossain of botany, ‘Masum’ of physics, ‘Jisan’ of statistics and Zahirul Islam of mathematics department. All members of DU’s Shahidullah Hall unit of BCL, they said. DU acting Proctor M Amzad Ali said BCL leaders of the hall unit had helped identify the four. The Proctor said that Shahidullah Hall unit BCL president Aminul Islam also helped identify the four attackers of Beg and his nieces inside the Shahidullah Hall premises four days ago, according to a news agency.
