RAJSHAHI UNIVERSITY, June 19: The activists of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) Sher-e-Bangla Hall unit of Rajshahi University (RU) confined hall provost and an assistant proctor for about three hours in the provost's office Friday midnight and assaulted them.
The BCL activists confined the teachers demanding for a projector to watch World Cup football matches, according to hall sources.
The two teachers are hall Provost Prof Shuvas Chandra Shil and Asst Proctor Prof Mamun Ziad.
Hall sources said that the general students and BCL activists of the hall had been demanding of the hall provost to provide them with a projector or 56 inch TV to watch World Cup matches.
Getting no responses from the authority, the BCL activists at 12:30am Friday demonstrated on the hall premises and blocked university main road.
Hearing the news, the hall provost and assistant proctor rushed to the spot and initiated a talk with the BCL leaders at provost office.
At one stage, the BCL leaders assaulted them as the provost refused to provide them with a projector or wide screen TV during the World Cup.
Later RU Proctor Prof CM Zakaria along with police rushed to the spot and freed the two confined teachers. The proctor also assured the agitated BCL activists to fulfil their demand within next 48 hours.
