Tuesday, 8 April 2014

Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) has postponed its strike at Rajshahi University (RU) until April 29. BCL General Secretary Touhid Al Tuhin told a campus press briefing on Tuesdsay that they will continue with other forms of protest against the killing of its RU leader Rustam Ali Akhand. Tuhin threatened to resume strike on Apr 30, if RU unit Islami Chhatra Shibir President Ashraful Alam Emon was not arrested and the authorities failed to meet their six-point charter of demands. “We have postponed the strike for stabilising the atmosphere after holding talks with the university administration and law enforcing agencies,” Tuhin said. Islami Chhatra Shibir is the student affiliate of Jamaat-e-Islami while the BCL is a front of the ruling Awami League. The BCL RU unit called the strike from Saturday to protest the murder of Rustam who was shot dead by unknown assailants in his room at a hall on Friday, according to bdnews24.com.
