BCL rivals clash over tender

GOPALGANJ, Nov 20 (bdnews24.com): At least 10 people have been injured in two separate clashes between rival groups of Bangladesh Chhatra League's (BCL) Gopalganj town unit.
The clashes took place Friday night over distribution of Gopalganj Water Development Board's (WDB) tender money worth Tk 90 million.
The clashes took place in the town's Mohammadpara intersection and the other in front of Gopalganj Sadar Hospital Friday at around 8.30pm and then at 10.30pm.
A tense situation was prevailing as the cadres of both the groups were patrolling Mohammadpara armed with bamboo sticks.
The police have arrested four including BCL activists Liton Khan (28) and Monir Mia alias Mongal (32) in this connection.
Meanwhile, the BCL men attacked and vandalised a residence in the town's "Lichu Bagaan" area.
Among the injured BCL men, Gopalganj town unit BCL president Sheikh Rasel Ahmed Rico (27), Kazi Riazul Islam Prince (21), a second year Honours student of Asia Pacific University, have been admitted to Gopalganj Sadar Hospital with serious injuries. BCL activist Riazul Islam Moni (25) was admitted to Faridpur Medical College Hospital while Fakrul Islam Fakrul (45) was rushed to Dhaka Medical College Hospital in a critical condition.
The rival BCL men, armed with bamboo sticks and other weapons, attacked and injured BCL leader Riazul Islam near at Ghonapara intersection when he was being taken to Khulna Medical College Hospital for treatment. Later, he was sent to Faridpur Medical College Hospital under police protection.
