BCL student detained for assaulting cop

RAJSHAHI UNIVERSITY, Feb 27: An activist of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) of Rajshahi University (RU) unit was held on Friday night accused for assaulting a police officer of Motihar police station and vandalising a restaurant. Sources said that the arrestee was Subuj Sarwar, a final year student of Language dept of RU and also an activist of BCL university unit, Sarwar was accused of assaulting Arif Hossain, a Sub Inspector of police and vandalising the Boishakhi restaurant during a factional clash on the campus on December 26, 2010. Motihar police arrested Sarwar from a rented mess at Mirzapur, an adjoining area of the university at about 9:30pm. Abul Khair, officer-in-charge of Motihar Police Station said that Sabuj would be produced before the court after interrogation.
