BCL urges authorities to hold DUCSU election

Tuesday, 9 June 2009

President of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) Mahmud Hasan Ripon Monday urged the authorities concerned to hold the election to Dhaka University Central Students’ Union (DUCSU) immediately, reports BSS.
Ripon said, "it appears that Dhaka University's traditional academic character is being hampered in absence of DUCSU."
He said, the DU students have frequently been facing different problems, which could be resolved by DUCSU, the most effective academic forum on the campus.
"The absence of DUCSU contributed to the rise of unhealthy student politics over the past two decades, when muscles instead of merit dominated the campus," he also said.
Ripon proudly recalled DUCSU's crucial and glorious political role in all national and democratic movements and transitions, especially from 1952 language movement to 1971 War of Liberation.
"During the 1990 mass upsurge against autocracy, DUCSU played the most crucial role to restore democracy in Independent Bangladesh," he said.
The BCL president also said that a central student union as well as the hall student unions are especially significant for healthy cultural activities on the campus, as Dhaka University has long been deprived of entertaining programmes for the past two decades.
He urged the present university authorities to take proper and immediate measures for holding the next DUCSU elections in the greater interest of the students of country's largest seat of learning.
