BCL wins CMCSU election

CHITTAGONG, July 12: The BCL has won all the 20 posts in the election of Chittagong Medical College Students’ Union (CMCSU) held yesterday.
Dipankar Das and Mafizur Rahman were elected vice president and general secretary respectively of the CMCSU, chief election commissioner Dr Jhulan Das Sharma told the media.
Dipankar of Bangladesh Chatra League bagged 784 votes against his contestant Subrata Dey of Bangladesh Chatra Union who received 213 votes.
Mafizur Rahman of BCL secured 668 votes against 367 votes gained by Abdul Jalil of Islami Chhatra Shibir. Jatiyatabadi Chatra Dal (JCD) was away from contesting the polls.
A total of 1122 out of 1299 votes were cast in the election held peacefully from 8.00 am to 2.00 pm. The ICS put up candidates for 18 and the BCU for eight posts respectively, Dr Sharma said.
The last election to the CMCSU was held in 2005 when the JCD won all the posts.
