A deadlock in Chittagong University (CU) caused by an internal feud of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) has ended after seven days. The faction of the university unit of the pro-government student organisation Chhatra League, that was holding the non-stop blockade in protest against the ‘harassment’ of an Awami League leader, has withdrawn it after a meeting with the university authorities. The authorities had assured that action would be taken against the culprits, Sumon Mamun, one of the leaders of the faction, said. “We have withdrawn the blockade for two weeks at the vice-chancellor’s request. We will resume the blockade if there is no development by then.” The faction led by Amit Kumar Basu began the blockade on May 7 to protest the ‘harassment’ of Awami League leader Nasir Haider Chowdhury Babul while attending a meeting to honour the late Vice Chancellor Abu Yusuf in April. Babul was a former general secretary of CU's BCL unit, according to bdnews24.com.
