'BCS Digital Expo 2009' will begin at the Bangladesh China Friendship Conference Centre (BCFCC) in the city on March 25 to showcase BCS digital technology and products.
Bangladesh Computer Samity (BCS) in cooperation with ICT Business Promotion Council of the Ministry of Science and ICT (Information and Communication Technology) is organising the four-day event, said BCS president Mustafa Jabber at a press conference Sunday.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is expected to inaugurate the exhibition as the chief guest at 3pm on March 25, the BCS president told newsmen.
He said President Md. Zillur Rahman will attend the concluding programme as the chief guest at the BCFCC on March 28.
The theme of this year's expo is 'Towards a digital Bangladesh'.
The main objectives of the exhibition are to provide the country's computer and IT industry with an overview to develop new alternate sources of supplies, make new contacts, discover new opportunities of the sub-sector and to capitalise on them, Mustafa Jabber said.
BCS expects that a large number of national and international companies and organisations will participate in the fair to demonstrate their products and services, said Shahid -Ul- Munir, convener of the fair committee.
He also said a total of 62 stalls and 16 pavilions will be set up at the fair venue for the participants.
"More than 54 local and foreign exhibitors are expected to participate in the country's first digital exhibition to display the country's nascent software and computer market potential to local and international players in the field," the convener said.
