BD archers fail to get bronze, cricket team lose to India

HANGZHOU, China, Oct 06 (BSS): Despite raising the hope, Bangladesh archery team failed to secure a bronze medal while the cricket team lost to India in the semifinal of the 19th Asian Games on Friday.
In archery, Bangladesh lost to Indonesia by 6-0 set points in the recurve men's team event bronze deciding match held at the Fuyang Yinhu Sports Centre.
Bangladesh archery team featuring Md Sagor, Ruman Sana and Mohammad Hakim Ahmed Rubel lost three consecutive sets by 56-55, 55-54, 58-54 points.
Earlier, in the semi-final match, Bangladesh fought neck to neck against India, but eventually lost the match by 5-3 set points.
On the way to the semifinal match, Bangladesh beat Thailand in the quarter-finals in a tiebreaker.
After the semifinal, the archers blamed their fate behind the defeat. Archery team's coach Martin Frederick was also found unhappy with the result.
In cricket, Bangladesh men's cricket team failed to reach the final as they suffered a massive nine-wicket defeat to India in the first semifinal held at
Zhejiang University of technology Pingfeng Campus Cricket Field Stadium.
Bangladesh will now fight for the bronze medal in the third-place deciding match against Pakistan.
The third-place match will be held tomorrow (Saturday) at the same venue.
Chasing Bangladesh's paltry total of 96 runs, the dominant Indian hardly had to sweat as they cake-walked into the target in 9.2 overs.
Sent to bat first, Bangladesh were restricted to 96 for 9 in 20 overs with Sai Kishore scalped 3 for 12 and Washington Sundar bagged 2 for 15.
While India's batsmen looked quite comfortable on the pitch reaching their target only in 9.2 overs for the loss of one wicket.
In hockey, Bangladesh suffered a 4-3 goals defeat to Oman to finish 8th place in the place-deciding match held at Gongshu Canal Sports Park Stadium.
The boys in red and green made a positive start taking a 2-0 lead in the first half.
Milan Hossain put Bangladesh ahead in the 11th minute in the first quarter and Russell Mahmud Jimmy added the second goal to the scoreboard in the 18th minute of the second quarter.
Oman, however, fought back in the third quarter to restore the parity scoring two goals in the 38th and 43rd minutes and added another two goals in the 53rd and 55th minutes in the fourth and last quarter.
Sohanur Rahman Sobuj pulled one back for Bangladesh in the 60th minute of the match.
