BD, Canada saw CAD $1.8b bilateral trade in 2013

Bilateral trade between Bangladesh and Canada amounted to more than Canadian dollar (CAD $) 1.8 billion in 2013, with agricultural commodities representing 68 per cent of Canadian exports, experts told a seminar on agriculture and agri-food products, held in the city on Tuesday. Canadian High Commission in Dhaka arranged the seminar, styled ‘Bangladesh – an Emerging Market for Alberta’s Agriculture and Agri Food Products’. Addressing the seminar, they said that Bangladesh imported CAD $ 528 million worth of Canadian agricultural products, including wheat and lentils, in 2013, an increase of 54 per cent over the previous year. Bangladesh’s exports to Canada reached CAD $ 1.12b in 2013 – 95 per cent was readymade garment. A delegation from the Alberta Agriculture and Rural Development Department, government of Alberta took part in the seminar making a technical presentation, according to a news agency.
