BD captain Shanto bats for under-fire Liton Das

Tuesday, 26 March 2024

Bangladesh skipper Najmul Hossain Shanto said on Monday that they need to back Liton Das in his bad times because he is one of the best batters in the team, reports Cricbuzz.
Liton copped a lot of flak for a nothing shot to get out in the second innings with 15 minutes to go for stumps. Coming in at 37/4, he chose to play across the line and throw away his wicket by charging down to pacer Vishwa Fernando first ball.
That washed away any hopes of Bangladesh staging a late fight back in the first Test given that the hosts were playing with six specialist batters in the absence of seasoned campaigner Mushfiqur Rahim, who was ruled out due to finger injury.
Litton is going through rough patch and was dropped from the third ODI after making ducks in the first two of the preceding series against Sri Lanka, and now his performance in the second innings has only raised more concern over his immediate future. Najmul, though, begs to differ.
"When he didn't play the last ODI, we were thinking of giving him a break. He is an important player for us and one of our best batters. He hasn't had a great time lately but we should be with him during this time, starting from the coaching staff to the players.
