BD, China to boost ties in tech transfer, skill dev

Bangladesh and China to foster stronger ties in technology transfer and skills development, experts said at the North South University (NSU) Tuesday at a programme titled 'Dhaka China Day 2024' jointly organised by NSU and the Embassy of the People's Republic of China.
The chief guest, Brigadier General (Retd.) M Sakhawat Hussain, adviser to the Ministry of Textiles and Jute and the Ministry of Shipping, stated, "I encourage the Chinese ambassador to explore partnership opportunities in the jute sector, which is very important for Bangladesh's economy."
Chinese Ambassador to Bangladesh Yao Wen said, "Bangladesh and China already share a rich cultural heritage. Through festivals like Dhaka China Day, we can deepen our ties and foster a new era of collaboration and friendship between our countries."
The programme attendees enjoyed cultural performances delivered by a troupe from Yunnan, China, students from NSU and Dhaka University, and the Bangladesh Wushu Federation, according to a press release.
They also experienced Chinese culture at the NSU Plaza areas, where booths showcased traditional Chinese crafts, cuisine, and cultural exhibits.
Dr Bulbul Siddiqi, Director of the Confucius Institute at NSU, said, "The event marks a significant milestone in strengthening our cultural and educational ties."
