Bangladesh wants to import electricity from neighbouring Bhutan to help meet its growing energy demand as the landlocked South Asian country has huge potential to generate hydroelectricity. State Minister for Foreign Affairs M Shahriar Alam conveyed the Bangladesh interest to newly appointed Bhutanese Ambassador to Bangladesh Pema Choden during a meeting held at the Foreign Ministry on Wednesday. Bhutan, however, expressed interest to have surplus internet bandwidth from Bangladesh. In response, Shahriar Alam assured the Bhutanese envoy of taking necessary steps for internet bandwidth sharing, according to UNB.
