BD gets $3.0m Japanese grant for HR dev

Japan and Bangladesh have signed an agreement for grant aid totalling US$3.0 million to support human-resource development in the country.
The exchange of notes on the Japanese grant aid titled "the Project for Human Resource Development Scholarship (JDS)" was signed by Ambassador of Japan to Bangladesh Iwama Kiminori and Secretary of the Economic Relations Division (ERD) Sharifa Khan on Monday.
Based on the agreement, chief representative of JICA Bangladesh Office Ichiguchi Tomohide and the ERD secretary signed a relevant grant agreement.
According to a press release from the Japanese Embassy, the grant aid titled "the Project for Human Resource Development Scholarship (JDS)" has provided opportunities for 477 Bangladeshi officials to pursue master's degrees and 15 officials to pursue doctoral degrees in Japan since its establishment in 2002.
In the Japanese Fiscal Year 2022, Bangladesh ranked first in the world in terms of the number of JDS dispatchers, the press release added.
On the occasion, the Japanese Ambassador said the role of government officials in the country's graduation to a developed nation is essential and hoped that the dispatch of young officials through the grant aid will be meaningful assistance to the development of the country for the next 20 years.
