BD-India may sign MoU to stop human trafficking

The three-day Bangladesh-India home secretary-level meeting will begin in Dhaka on Tuesday. The two neighbouring countries are likely to sign a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to stop human trafficking during the September 2-4 meeting. Cabinet Secretary Mosharraf Hossain Bhuiyan said the proposal to ink the MoU with India at the home secretary-level meeting was approved by the Cabinet on Monday. He said during the meeting, the MoU may be signed with India on rescue, repatriation and rehabilitation of victims of cross-border human trafficking. ‘The Indian government has already approved the signing,’ Bhuiyan said. He said women and children were trafficked from Bangladesh to many countries, particularly India. Some Indians too were brought into Bangladesh. ‘Both nations are concerned about this. Both the home ministries have been focusing on this issue and have formed a joint taskforce to prevent trafficking,’ he added, according to private TV channels.
