BD, Indian FMs discuss Teesta, goods supply

Teesta and supply of essential commodity issues, among others, were discussed during the bilateral meeting between foreign minister Dr Hasan Mahmud and his Indian counterpart Dr S Jaishankar.
They sat in talks on the sidelines of the Second BIMSTEC Foreign Ministers' Retreat 2024 in New Delhi, a spokesperson for the Bangladesh foreign ministry said on Friday.
Dr Mahmud, who accompanied Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina during her Beijing trip, flew to Delhi from Beijing to join the BIMSTEC meeting.
During the meeting hosted on Thursday, Dr Mahmud requested Dr Jaishankar to ensure smooth supply of essential commodities, including onion, to Bangladesh.
He appreciated India's cooperation in power and energy sectors and thanked Delhi for its decision to facilitate the first trilateral power transmission from Nepal to Bangladesh through the Indian grid.
Dr Mahmud also discussed with his counterpart for sending a technical team for the conservation and management of the Teesta.
He sought India's support in favour of Bangladesh's bid for BRICS membership, according to the official.
Dr Mahmud invited his Indian counterpart to attend the next meeting of the Joint Consultative Commission (JCC) to be held in Bangladesh.
The JCC is a bilateral mechanism between Bangladesh and India.
