BD inks deal with Netherlands, WB to implement Delta Plan 2100

Bangladesh has signed a deal with the Netherlands, the World Bank Group including its private sector arm, International Finance Corporation (IFC) to facilitate management of the Asia’s largest and the world’s most populated delta – Bangladesh. The partnership will help develop and implement the Bangladesh Delta Plan 2100, a long term and holistic vision for the Bangladesh Delta, and assist realise Bangladesh’s goal of becoming a middle-income country by the year 2021 while maintaining the unique biodiversity and physical characteristics of the delta. Finance Minister AMA Muhith, Agriculture Minister Begum Matia Chowdhury, Netherlands’ Minister for Infrastructure and the Environment Melanie Schultz van Haegen, Dutch Foreign Trade and Development Cooperation Minister Lilianne Ploumen, and Programme Leader of the World Bank Lia Carol Sieghart were also present during the signing of the deal.
The Delta Plan aims to create a long-term vision for delta management, prepare for different scenarios and responses, identify and organize government institutions to address challenges and create and facilitate a long-term investment program bolstered by private sector participation and development partners.
