FE REPORT | Saturday, 22 July 2023
Bangladesh recorded one more death in the mosquito-borne dengue fever on Friday as new infections continued unabated across the country.
With the latest fatality, the total deaths climbed to 156, according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).
Out of total 50 listed government-run and private hospitals, 29 did not provide the daily dengue reports as it was weekend on Friday, said the DGHS.
Besides, 896 new dengue patients were hospitalised countrywide in the last 24 hours ending at 8:00 am on Friday.
Of them, 403 were from Dhaka and 483 from elsewhere.
According to the DGHS, the dengue death rate is five-year high this year.
The total dengue cases rose to 28,443. Of the total cases, 17,646 were from Dhaka, cited the DGHS.
A total of 6,076 people are being treated in hospitals across the country. Of them, 3,560 are from Dhaka.
Of the total cases admitted, 22,211 made recovery and returned home, including Dhaka's 13,964.
Last year, 281 people died due to dengue, the highest ever in the history of the country.
However, the number of deaths may increase as dengue has taken a terrible turn this year, experts fear.
They apprehend that the situation may worsen in August and September compared to July as the rainy season came late this year.
