Monday, 27 January 2014
Bangladesh lost three quick wickets, including that of ace opener Tamim Iqbal, after Sri Lanka sent the hosts to bat in the first Test at Mirpur today. The Tigers scored 48 in 13.1 overs losing two wickets when this report was filed. Sri Lankan captain Angelo Mathews won the toss and sent Bangladesh in to bat in the first Test at the Sher-e-Bangla stadium in Dhaka. Bangladesh left out Imrul Kayes, Mohammad Mahmudullah and Abdur Razzak from their initial squad, and awarded a Test cap to opening batsman Shamsur Rahman. Sri Lanka were without wicket-keeper Prasanna Jayawardene, who is to return home to Colombo later on Monday due to his father's illness. The tourists omitted unorthodox spinner Ajantha Mendis, preferring all-rounder Dilruwan Perera. Sri Lanka are to play two Tests, three one-day internationals and two Twenty20 games during the tour that ends on February 22, according to AFP.
