Bangladesh made good practice in West Indies (WI) tour comfortably beating Grenada team by 95 runs in their lone one-day practice match at the Progress Park in St Andrew's, Grenada Sunday, reports UNB.
This was a huge morale booster for the Bengal Tigers in the Caribbean tour ahead of the three-match ODI series that will begin tomorrow (Wednesday) at the National Cricket Stadium at St George's in Grenada.
Favoured by coin, Bangladesh batted first to post a huge total of 322 for 6 in stipulated 50 overs featuring 91 runs off 86 balls by hard-hitting opening batsman Tamim Iqbal with 12 fours and two sixes.
Tamim was involved in two good partnerships -- 56 runs in the opening stand with Anamul Haque Bijoy and a brisk 88 runs in the third wicket stand with Shamsur Rahman Shuvo.
All the Bangladesh batsmen made useful contributions, except one down Imrul Kayes who fell for 1.
Mahmudullah Riyad pairing with Nasir Hossain gave the Tigers a strong finish with 101 runs of just 50 balls in the 6th wicket stand. Mahmudullah contributed 78 runs off 61 balls with seven fours and three sixes while Nasir Hossain scored 22 runs off 24 balls with two fours.
Earlier, skipper Mushfiqur Rahim contributed 44 runs off 41 balls with four fours and a six, number four Shamsur Rahman Shuvo scored 32 runs off 46 balls with three fours while Anamul Haque Bijoy made 24 off 48 balls with two fours and a six.
Josh Thomas and Nelon Pascal claimed two wickets each for 54 and 76 runs respectively while Denis George and Preston McSween took one wicket each.
Chasing a huge target of 323 runs, Grenada team fought hard, but was forced to fold their innings at 227 for 9 in quota 50 overs.
After the dismissal of top three batsmen-Devon Smith (4), Heron Campbell (23) and captain Andre Fletcher (29) -- for 83 runs in 20.3 overs, one down Keone George tried his best to repair the early damage contributing 62 runs off 89 balls with six fours and a six.
Grenada's steep chase hit a hurdle early on when Sohag Gazi dismissed Devon Smith in the second over. Keone George tried to anchor the chase with an 89-ball 62, but his dismissal set off a slide that saw Grenada lose five wickets for nine runs and stumble to 186 for 9.
The last-wicket pair-Denis George (not out 25) and Preston McSween (not out 14) added 41 to help the side reach 227 for 9
Besides, Ronald Ettienne (31) and Rudolph Paul (19) were the other major contributors for Grenada team.
Pacer Mashrafe Bin Mortaza claimed three wickets for 44 runs while another pacer Al Amin Hossain and spinner Abdur Razzak took two wickets each for 34 and 35 runs respectively. Sohag Gazi and Taskin Ahme.
