BD, Malaysia discuss human trafficking

The joint commission meeting between Malaysia and Bangladesh has discussed the issue of human trafficking in the region and acknowledged the importance of finding out a coordinated response to the irregular movement of people.
The fourth joint commission meeting that concluded in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah, Malaysia on Sunday stressed the need for continued cooperation with also other countries in the region to find out coordinated response to the growing menace of irregular movement of people and its eventual solutions.
Bangladesh Foreign Minister Abul Hasan Mahmood Ali led the Bangladesh side at the two-day meeting while Malaysian Foreign Minister Dato' Sri Anifah Aman led the Malaysian side.
The meeting was preceded by another meeting of senior officials held on May 16 last. It concluded with signing of joint agreed minutes by the two foreign ministers.
The two leaders discussed in details the employment of Bangladeshi workers possibly in the fields of infrastructure development, tourism, culture, education, agriculture and science and technology.
A Ministry of Foreign Affairs press release said the Bangladesh side requested the Malaysian side to take further steps to recruit more workers from Bangladesh and open up other potential sectors for Bangladeshi workers.
It said during the meeting the whole gamut of bilateral issues between Malaysia and Bangladesh were discussed in details. Both the foreign ministers agreed to further explore the potential of bilateral trade and investment for mutual benefit of the peoples of the two countries.
Both the foreign ministers agreed to hold the fifth Joint Commission Meeting in Dhaka in 2017 on a mutually convenient date.
