BD, Myanmar agree to set up BLOs

Thursday, 12 June 2014

In the wake of recent border tension over the killing of a BGB man, Bangladesh and Myanmar have agreed to introduce border liaison offices (BLOs) along the Bangladesh-Myanmar border to ensure a quick response to border-related problems. The decision was taken at the director general-level formal border talks between the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) and Myanmar’s Border Guard Police (BGP) in the Myanmar capital of Nay Pyi Taw on Thursday, sources at BGB headquarters in Dhaka said. The formal two-day talks that began on Tuesday ended on Thursday with the signing a joint record of discussions (JRD). During the discussions, Bangladesh placed a model of Coordinated Border Management plan (CBMP) and Myanmar took note of it for further study, according to a news agency.
