BD-Myanmar border still tense

Bangladesh still wants to take forward the "growing relations" with Myanmar, the foreign minister has said a couple of days after a Bangladeshi border guard was killed by its forces, report agencies.
Abul Hassan Mahmood Ali was replying to questions on the sidelines of the launch of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) photo exhibition Sunday marking its 150 years of establishment.
"We are hopeful," Ali said before adding that his government was doing everything necessary to that end.
He said the Myanmar side had already returned the body of the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) Nayek Mizanur Rahman.
"Tensions (in border) have been eased… We will take forward regular activities," Bangladesh's top diplomat said.
Meanwhile, State Minister for Home Affairs Asaduzzaman Khan Sunday said misunderstanding led to the clash between members of Border Guard of Bangladesh (BGB) and Myanmar Border Guard Police (BGP) along the Bangladesh-Myanmar border.
He came out with the remarks while talking to reporters at his office after a meeting on the protection of whistleblowers with the law enforcement agencies.
Asked about Myanmar's deployment of force along the Bangladesh-Myanmar border, the junior minister said, "BGB is enough for our border. We want to maintain good relations with both the neighbouring countries. We don't see the need of deploying army."
He also said Myanmar is expected to withdraw its force from the border area soon as the misunderstanding has been removed.
Another report from Bandarban adds: A tense situation was prevailing along the border Sunday following the killing of BGB Nayek Mizanur Rahman in firing by BGP of Myanmar.
Although the BGP Saturday handed over the BGB member's body, an uneasy calm was prevailing along the border over the incident, according to locals.
