BD-Myanmar border talks begin at Nay Pyi Taw

A four-day director general level border talks between Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) and Myanmar’s Border Guard Police (BGP) began at Nay Pyi Taw in Myanmar on Tuesday. A joint record of discussions (JRD) is expected to be signed on Thursday (June 12). The talks will conclude on Friday (June 13). BGB Director General Major General Aziz Ahmed is leading an eight-member Bangladesh delegation to the talks while his counterpart, the Chief of Myanmar Police Force, Police Major General Zaw Win heads the 13-member Myanmar delegation. Sources at the BGB headquarters here said the main reason to hold the conference is to improve border situation between the two neighboring countries. Besides, various border related issues, including curbing smuggling of drugs especially Yaba tablets and wine from Myanmar, initiative for setting up telephone and mobile phone communications at various level of BGB and BGP officers and starting coordinated border management plans might come up in the talks, according to UNB.
