BD Nat\\\'l Hockey team leave for Malaysia today

A 23-member Bangladesh National Hockey team will leave Dhaka for Malaysia today (Sunday) en route to Singapore to play in the 2nd round matches of the World Hockey League to be held in Singapore on January 17-25, reports UNB.
Krishna Kumar Das will lead the Bangladesh national hockey team for the first time replacing long-serving skipper Mamunur Rahman Chayan while Sarwar Hossain has been made vice-captain of the team.
The Bangladesh entourage comprises 18 players and five officials.
Bangladesh has been put in strong Pool B along with Japan, Poland and Mexico while Pool A team comprises Malaysia, Oman, Ukraine and Singapore.
In the World Hockey League, Bangladesh (ranked 30th) will start campaign taking top seed Japan (ranked 14) on the opening day (Jan 17), will play Mexico (ranked 35) on the following day (Jan 18) and will meet Poland (ranked 18) on January 20.
Bangladesh will play two practice matches in Kuala Lumpur, first against Malaysian Under-21 team on January 12 and the 2nd against Malaysia A team on January 13, before leaving for Singapore on January 14.
Bangladesh will also play another practice match against Oman on January 15 in Singapore ahead of their main battle.
Bangladesh team players: Krishna Kumar Das (captain), Sarwar Hossain (vice captain), Khurshedur Rahman, Milon Hossain, Abu Sayeed Nippon, Farhad Ahmed Shetul, Mamunur Rahman Chayan, Ashraful Islam, Asim Gope, Rumman Sarkar, Rezaul Karim Babu, Pushkar Khisha Mimo, Hasan Jubair Niloy, Moinul Islam, Russell Mahmud Jimi, AHM Kamruzzaman, Rimon Kumar Ghosh and Imran Hasan.
Officials are: Kamrul Islam (Manager), Rafiqul Islam Kamal (Assistant Manager), Gobinathan Krishna Murthi (Head Coach), ANM Mamun-ur-Rashid (Coach) and M Shahbaz Ali (Umpire).
