Bangladesh needs to improve its infrastructure for attracting more Swedish investment in the country, Swedish Ambassador in Bangladesh Johan Frisell said on Wednesday.
"Bangladesh has potential to draw foreign investment. The country needs to develop its infrastructure and simplify formalities of doing business for attracting more Swedish investment here," the Ambassador of the Sweden told the FE after meeting with Commerce Minister Tofail Ahmed at the latter's Secretariat office on the day.
He suggested simplification of customs and tax regimes and banking formalities for drawing more foreign investors.
About the ongoing political crisis he said killing of innocent people in the name of political programme is never justified. He expressed hope that the current political impasse would be resolved through a peaceful way.
Replying to a question about issuance of arrest warrant against BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia the commerce minister said, "We (Awami League) don't believe in the politics of vengeance; rather we were victimised. BNP chairperson is not the victim of political vengeance."
"She (Khaleda Zia) should abide by the law. She did not appear before the court. The law will take its own course," he said while replying to a question about the possibility of arresting Khaleda Zia.
Asked whether the case against BNP Chairperson was politically motivated he said, "We had also faced cases. I was also sent to jail".
