Sunday, 20 July 2014

Bangladesh will discuss its ‘issues of interest’ over its participation in the UN peacekeeping operations during the visit of Under Secretary General for Department of Peacekeeping Operations (DPKO) Hervé Ladsous to Dhaka. Foreign Minister AH Mahmood Ali said this at a press conference at the Foreign Ministry on Sunday and described the visit ‘very significant’ for Bangladesh. Ladsous arrives in Bangladesh on Tuesday (July 22) on a three-day visit. This will be the first visit of USG level from the United Nations to Bangladesh, the top peacekeeping contributing country in the world, after the present government assumed office for the second consecutive term following the January-5 elections. During his stay, Ladsous will meet President Abdul Hamid, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, Foreign Minister AH Mahmood Ali, State Minister for Foreign Affairs M Shahriar Alam and the chiefs of the three services – army, navy and air force. Ladsous will also address a seminar, titled 'Peacekeeping Trends and Challenges', to be hosted by the Foreign Ministry, according to UNB.
