BD to give $1.0m for Thai flood-hit people

Foreign Minister (FM) Dipu Moni called on visiting Thai Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn at a city hotel Sunday and discussed the issues of mutual interests, reports UNB. The FM conveyed Bangladesh's deep sympathy for the loss of lives and damage of properties in the unprecedented flood in Thailand. Dipu Moni said as a gesture of compassion, friendship and solidarity with the Thai people, Bangladesh is giving US$ 1.0 million for the flood affected people of Thailand. She thanked the Royal Princess for her keen interest in socio-economic development of Bangladesh and visiting this country for the second time within two years. The FM also thanked her for taking interest in the ongoing 'Learning Centre on Sufficiency Economy Philosophy' project in Gazipur and for the implementation of two pilot projects on hygiene and sanitation for school children in two government primary schools in Dhaka and Gazipur under the patronage of Princess Sirindhorn.
