BD to observe UN Peacekeepers Day Thursday

The International Day of United Nations Peacekeepers will be observed in Bangladesh and elsewhere in the world on Thursday.
On 29 May, UN offices, member states and non-governmental organizations, will hold events to honour the memory of the UN peacekeepers who have lost their lives in the cause of peace.
Tribute will be paid to all the men and women who have served in UN peacekeeping operations, according to a press release.
Since the first UN peacekeeping mission ensued in 1948, more than 3,200 military, police and civilian personnel have lost their lives in the service of peace as a result of acts of violence, accidents and disease.
President Abdul Hamid and Prime Minister gave separate messages on the occasion.
On the occasion, a programme will be held at Bangabandhu International Conference Centre (BICC), where President Abdul Hamid is expected to attend.
 Bangladesh Armed Forces have taken various programmes to mark the day, according to UNB.
