Sunday, 13 April 2014

Bangladesh will receive a grant of $15,16,275 from two international agencies for environmentally safe recycling of ships. The aid will come from Norwegian Agency for Development Cooperation (NORAD) and Secretariat of the Basel, Rotterdam and Stockholm Convention (BRS) for implementation of the Safe and Environmentally Sound Ship Recycling in Bangladesh (Phase-1) Project. International Maritime Organisation (IMO) in partnership with the industries ministry will implement the project, according to a MoU signed last week. This is the first project in Bangladesh for development of the country’s ship recycling sector, according to a news agency.
