BD urges world to recognise 1971 genocide

Bangladesh called upon on Tuesday the international community to recognize the genocide carried out in the country during the 1971 Liberation War, reports BSS.
Bangladesh Charge D'affairs and Deputy Permanent Representative to the United Nations Tareq Md Ariful Islam made the call at an open debate organized by United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in New York, said a press release here.
The debate was held on "The Responsibility to Protect and the Prevention of Genocides, Ethnic Cleansing, War Crimes and Crimes against Humanity".
About ethnic cleansing, Tareq mentioned the violence carried out against the Rohingya community which has created one of the biggest humanitarian catastrophes.
