FE REPORT | Wednesday, 5 October 2022

Foreign Minister Dr A K Abdul Momen on Tuesday said Bangladesh would not fall into the trap to get provoked by any quarter to engage in conflict, as the country is committed to resolving the Rohingya crisis through negotiation.
About the conflict between the Arakan Army insurgents and the Myanmar forces along the Bangladesh border, the minister noted that the conflict is their internal affair.
Responding to a question he said China has been working sincerely to resolve the Rohingya crisis.
"Though we are yet to get the expected outcome, what we can say is that they have been engaged very actively to resolve the issue."
Talking to the journalists at his office the foreign minister also observed that the United Nations has become so weak now that it is not capable of stopping war.
Mr Momen, who reached home on Monday night after attending the sessions of the UN General assembly in New York, mentioned that the Rohingya issue was highlighted in different events on the sidelines of the UN sessions.
Senior representatives as well as foreign ministers from different countries attended those events and pledged their support to resolve the crisis.
Responding to another question the minister said they had raised the issue of sanction on RAB in Washington.
"We've raised the issue and we will continue doing it. We will follow all the processes to resolve this issue."
He informed that Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is expected to visit Japan in the last week of November at the invitation of the Prime Minister of Japan.
