B\\\'desh Amateur Golf opens

The eight-nation Runner Group 30th Bangladesh Amateur Golf Championship (BAGC), a regular international amateur golf competition of the country, was inaugurated at Kurmitola Golf Club in the city Tuesday, reports UNB.
Master General of Ordinance of Bangladesh Army Major General M Abdus Salam Khan opened the four-day meet at a ceremony that featured releasing colourful balloons and pigeons, and hoisting the national flags of eight participating countries.

General Mizanur Rahman Khan and Chairman of the meet's sponsor Runner Group Hafizur Rahman Khan were present at the inaugural function, organised by Kurmitola Golf Club.
Although the meet was formally inaugurated Tuesday, the four-day competition in three groups-male, female and senior-will begin this (Wednesday) morning at the Kurmitola golf course.
Chief of Bangladesh Air Force Air Marshal Muhammad Enamul Bari is expected to be the chief guest at the closing ceremony on March 14.
BGF secretary general Brig Gen Abul Fazal Md Sanaullah disclosed the details of the meet at a press conference at the Kurmitola Golf Club Tuesday afternoon, prior to the opening ceremony.
In all, 185 golfers (164 male and 21 female), including 37 foreign golfers from seven countries-Afghanistan, Bhutan, Pakistan, Myanmar, Nepal, Thailand and Sri Lanka-are taking part in the championship.
Bangladesh is being represented in the meet by an eight-member team, including four male and four female golfers. Members of Bangladesh golf team are Sajib Ali, Mohammad Ismail, Akbar Hossain, Afnan Mahmud Chowdhury, Zakia Sultana, Lisa Akhter, Sonia Akhter and Nasima Akhter.
Replying to a query, the BGF secretary general informed that they are working hard to arrange "Asian Tour" in Bangladesh this year
