B'desh gets $0.97m export order in Kolkata trade fair

Bangladeshi companies received confirmed and prospective export orders worth US$ 0.97 million in the '23rd Industrial India Trade Fair (IITF).
The eleven-day trade fair concluded recently at Milan Mela Ground in Kolkata, the capital of Indian state West Bengal, said a press release.
Began on December 24, 2009, the trade fair was organised by the Bengal Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BNCCI) in collaboration with the Government of West Bengal and India Trade Promotion Organisation (ITPO).
Around 700 exhibitors from different parts of India and six foreign countries -- Bangladesh, China, Egypt, Pakistan, Turkey and Vietnam -- participated in the fair.
IITF is one of the biggest trade carnivals in the Eastern and North Eastern India.
The mega event mirrors the industrial and technological progress of this region encompassing various sectors of the economy.
The fair is certainly a highly commendable event that both the industry and the government can revel in.
Bangladesh was the focus country this year and the theme of the fair was 'Climate Change and Renewable Energy'.
Minister for Land Md Rezaul Karim Hira inaugurated the Bangladesh Pavilion, while State Minister for Land Advocate Mostafizur Rahman was present on the occasion.
The land minister informed the Bangladeshi participants/ businessmen that the main objective of the Bangladesh participation in the fair was to popularise Bangladeshi products to the regional market particularly to the vast Indian market.
He also requested the Bangladeshi companies to take full advantage and harness the facilities available for Bangladeshi products under APTA/SAPTA/SAFTA.
Around 38 Bangladeshi companies took part in the fair with a large number of diverse products in the respective sector under the umbrella of the Export Promotion Bureau (EPB).
The major displayed products were Jamdani sari, Tangail sari, melamine tableware, biscuit, fruit juice, boutique and handicrafts, ready-made garments (RMG), Nokshi Khantha, Nokshi bed-sheet, silk fabrics (handmade), gift item, Salwar-Kamiz, Katan-Banarashi sari, lungi, cosmetics and toiletries.
Bangladesh Pavilion was very well decorated, which attracted every visitor of the fair.
Bangladesh got the best award owing to excellence executed in the 23rd IITF.
The participation in the fair would open up a new horizon of cooperation between Bangladesh and India and would boost up trade ties between the two countries in future, the release added.
