B\\\'desh men finish 64th, women 56th in World Chess Olympiad

Bangladesh men's team finished 64th in the Open section of the 41st World Chess Olympiad securing 12 points after losing to Sweden by 1-3 points in the 11th and final round matches Thursday in Tromso, Norway, reports UNB.
Bangladesh started their final round matches in overnight 51st position, eventually finished 64th among 177 participating teams with five wins, two draws and four defeats.
China clinched the men's title, first ever as the Asian country, with 19 points while Hungary and India became 2nd and 3rd respectively securing 17 points each.
Meanwhile, in the women's section, Bangladesh finished 56th among 136 countries after beating Zimbabwe by 2.5-1.5 points in the final round also securing 12 points from 11 matches.
In the women's section, Russia emerged champions with 20 points while China and Ukraine became 2nd and 3rd respectively with 18 points each.
In the final round of open section, Bangladesh GM Ziaur Rahman and GM Niaz Murshed drew against GM Grandelius Nils and GM Aitbayev Aslan of Sweden respectively while GM Abdullah Al Rakib and GM Enamul Hossain Rajib lost to GM Hillarp Persson and GM Tikkanen Hans.
In the women's last round matches, WIM Rani Hamid beat Mbatha Constance, WFM Sharmin Sultana Shirin defeated Saina Yvonne and WIM Shamima Akter Liza defeated Mwango Lorita of Zimbabwe while WFM Zakia Sultana lost to Hamoonga Linda Banti.
