BDR being reconstituted with dedicated, honest, patriotic personnel: BDR DG

Sunday, 22 March 2009

JAMALPUR, Mar 21 (UNB): New chief of the mutiny-mangled Bangladesh Rifles (BDR) Brig Gen Md Mainul Islam Saturday said the paramilitary border force would be reconstituted under a new name with courageous and patriotic members who were still dedicated to the cause of the nation.
"The BDR will freshly be formed under a new name with the honest, dedicated and patriotic jawans who were not involved in the mutiny," said the Director General of the paramilitary force.
The newly appointed DG, who is currently on his mission to regroup the virtually disbanded BDR after the elimination of its entire command comprising army officers, made the remarks while addressing battalions at Jamalpur BDR camp.
He struck a note of optimism that the force which would emerge through the resurrection process would perform its duty for the betterment of the country as per their expectation.
"I'm talking before you while the entire nation is passing through a transitional period and you know a brutal killing was staged at the Pilkhana Headquarters (of BDR) in the name of realising demands," he said.
He suggested that his written speech delivered recently at the BDR Headquarters in which he gave some necessary instructions be read.
He noted that the entire nation showed their hate over the killings and a disciplined force like BDR is also 'hated' by the nation for the anathema the incident caused.
The BDR chief assured that no innocent BDR jawans would be harassed and but the guilty ones certainly would be punished.
"The entire nation wants the border safeguarded - it is a pride for you to take the responsibility of guarding the borders," he said, asking all to work honestly.
He asked the BDR jawans to find out whether any mutineers were hiding within the incumbent members.
