The government on Wednesday appealed seeking punishment of 69 acquitted accused in BDR mutiny and carnage cases. A trial court on November 5 last year sentenced 152 people to death, handing down life term imprisonment to 161 others, sentencing 261 to jail on various terms and acquitted 271 of the charges brought against them in the two cases. Among the 161 accused receiving life term imprisonment for their role in the February 25-26 2009 carnage at Pilkhana were two politicians – former BNP lawmaker Nasiruddin Ahmed Pintu and ward-level Awami League leader Torab Ali, according to a news agency.
