Tuesday, 10 June 2014
The High Court will hear the appeal against the trial court verdict sentencing detained BNP leader Nasir Uddin Pintu to life in jail in the country’s largest-ever trial for killing at the Pilkhana headquarters of now-dismantled Bangladesh Rifles (BDR) in February 2009, according to a news agency.
Upon a plea filed by the lifer, HC division bench comprising Justice Syed AB Mahmudul Huq and Justice M Nazrul Islam Talukder passed the order Tuesday.
It also stayed the operation of the trial court verdict that had awarded Pintu a fine of Tk 5, 00,000. Besides, the plea for seeking division in the jail is scheduled to be heard Wednesday.
