RANGAMATI, Nov 5 (BSS): Members of Bangladesh Rifles (BDR) pushed back 58 Myanmar nationals through Ashartali-Chakdhala frontier under Naikhyongchhari Upazila of Bandarban district between Tuesday and Wednesday, sources said.
Of them, Roangchhari police arrested 38 people while Alikadam and Lama arrested 19 and one respectively by conducting raids at different areas of those upazilas.
The police handed the arrested persons over to BDR personnel for pushing them back to Myanmar, said police sources.
The Myanmar nationals were infiltrated into Bangladesh through different frontier points and took shelter at houses of their well-wishers in October this year, the police said adding that many of them fled to dense forest to avert arrest.
Commanding Officer-in-Charge of 15th Battalion of BDR stationed at Naikhyongchhari Major Zia and Upazila Nirbahi Officer Nowab Aslam Habib confirmed the news of push back.
