US Assistant Secretary of State for South and Central Asian Affairs Nisha Desai Biswal has hailed Bangladesh for playing vital role in international peacekeeping efforts. She said rhe United States and the international community are profoundly grateful to the people of Bangladesh for their contributions to UN peacekeeping missions. Biswal said this while visiting the Bangladesh Institute of Peace Support Operation Training (BIPSOT) in Gazipur district on Friday. Currently, Bangladesh has over 8,700 individuals deployed around the world at part of UN peacekeeping mission. ‘These patriots from Bangladesh’s military and police have contributed greatly to global peace and security,’ she said. Biswal arrived in Dhaka on Thursday on a 3-day visit. During the visit, she will have meetings with high-level government officials and labour, RMG sector and business community leaders, and opposition party leaders. Biswal will also meet opposition leader Raushon Ershad and BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia later in the day. This is Biswal’s second visit to Bangladesh as she had been here soon after taking over as the Assistant Secretary of State for South and Central Asian Affairs on October 21, 2013. Before her arrival here, Biswal attended the 18th Saarc Summit that ended on Thursday in Kathmandu, Nepal, according to a news agency.
