A seminar termed "Management of Covid patients of Bangladesh: Sharing of Practical Experience" organised by Beacon Pharmaceuticals Ltd was held at a city hotel recently, said a statement.
Major General Prof. Dr. Azizul Islam, Consultant Physician of The Armed Forces Hospital, Bangladesh read the keynote address of the seminar. Air Comrade Dr. Md. Abdun Noor presented his practical experience on corona patients management at the seminar.
Monjurul Alam, Global Business Director, Mohammad Hanif, Executive Vice President (Marketing) and Md. Aminul Islam, Executive Vice President (Sales) were also present at the programme.
In Bangladesh, the treatment of corona patients is going on through some presumed drugs such as Hydroxychloroquine, Azithromycin, Ivermectin, Doxycycline, Remdesivir and Favipiravir whose efficacy are not proven yet by proper clinical trials. Many countries have already stopped using hydroxychloroquine due to its serious cardiac side effects. Although the FDA has given approval to remdesivir for emergency use purpose, the molecule has limited use to a ventilator-supported patient only. Currently no drug is 100 per cent effective for corona virus. The drug Favipiravir, the Japanese flu drug Avigan, shows hope for the treatment of patients with corona virus and is being used in many countries, the statement said.
At present some pharmaceuticals companies are manufacturing Favipiravir in Bangladesh though Beacon Pharmaceuticals has manufactured this molecule for the first time in Bangladesh.
A clinical trial is going on using Favipira of Beacon Pharmaceuticals Ltd having approved protocol from Bangladesh Medical Research Council (BMRC) & The Directorate General of Drug Administration (DGDA). The result will be published soon. Major General Aziz was the first physician in this country to use Favipira for the treatment of Corona patients. Most of the corona patients in this country are asymptomatic. A description of how Major General Aziz treated Corona patients of armed forces is attached herewith.
Air Comrade Md. Abdun Noor said in his narration that, he gave Favipira to his 23 Air Force missionary officers. At 8th day, 22 patients tested negative for PCR and only 1 was positive. So, Favipira is very effective for treating corona patients in our country.
Mohammad Hanif described his own experience of wining against Corona battle in this programme.
He said that, the Favipira has given him a new life. The combination of drinking hot water, inhalation of water vapor and Favipira has helped him to recover from corona.
