Beating a teacher and apathy of authorities

Saturday, 16 January 2010

Recently a teacher of Rajshahi University has been beaten by a student, allied to the ruling political party. But, with sheer astonishment, we have observed the inactivity of the present ruling party-blessed authority, known to be very close to that teacher.
If this is the situation, what we can expect from our teachers and students. This can be easily understood by us?
This shows the real picture of the morality, taught by our teachers and parents, from our childhood. A student can never offend his/her teacher under any circumstance. We, both the parents and the teachers, are responsible for such incident.
Many of our parents are not able to guide their children the right way to behave. Even sometimes, they intentionally or unintentionally influence their children who show disrespect to the teachers. Such guardians do also sometimes support them. In most cases, when a teacher scolds or beats or punishes a student, the parents come up as rivals to the teachers. The parents do this out of their excessive love to their child. They forget that the teachers do that for the betterment of the students. From them the students learn to disrespect their teachers.
Again, at primary and secondary levels of education, sometimes the teachers are inefficient and sometimes they pursue the students to take tuition from him/her privately for earning extra income. This leads the students to show disrespect who lose their dignity because of their greed.
At the higher level of education will universities, students see their teachers are involved in politics. Sometimes, such teachers favour the students from the same side and discriminate others. Sometimes, teachers turn inimical to the students of the opposite wing. Such behaviour causes impertinence among the students. The apathy of the university authority is also a consequence of the political game.
Under such an overt political environment, we hardly can expect all the actors -- teachers and students -- to rise above political disputes and create a healthy teacher-student relations above all.
