Beating up DU student: 7 BCL activists suspended

Dhaka University (DU) authorities have suspended 7 activists of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) on charge of beating up a university student on Thursday. The suspended BCL activists have been identified as Shahin of the Philosophy Department, Ashique and Mamun of the English Department, Shakil of the Urdu Department, Liton and Mehedi of the Tourism and Hospitality Management Department and Zafar. They belong to DU’s Mohsin Hall unit of BCL, the student affiliate of Awami League. Following an altercation, the 7 BCL men beat up Al Amin, a 1st year honours student of Criminology Department and a resident student of Bangabandhu Hall, on the DU campus on Thursday, leaving him injured. Al Amin received treatment at DU Medical Centre. When contacted, DU acting Proctor Prof Amzad Ali confirmed that a decision has been taken to suspend the 7 students. Asked how many days the suspension would remain in force, he said they will take decision in this regard after investigation into the incident, according to a news agency.
