Beckenbauer criticises England

JOHANNESBURG, June 15 (AFP): Germany legend Franz Beckenbauer hit out Tuesday at England's style of play at the World Cup, saying they "have gone backwards into the bad old times of kick and rush."
While Fabio Capello's England struggled in a 1-1 draw with the United States after goalkeeper Robert Green's howler handed the Americans an equaliser, a dashing Germany side crushed the Australians 4-0 in their first match.
"What I saw from the English in their 1-1 draw against the USA had very little to do with football," Beckenbauer wrote in a syndicated newspaper column.
