SIRAJGANJ, Jan 13: Bee cultivators in various upazilas of the district are losing their eagerness in collecting honey due to its low price.
In every winter season, hundreds of bee cultivators come to Taras, Ullapara, Shajadpur and Raiganj upazilas of the district to collect honey by setting bee boxes near to the mustard plantation fields.
This year they have already collected a few tonnes of honey but could not sell those at satisfactory prices.
A bee cultivator Kalimuddin of Tarash Upazila said that he had collected a large amount of honey because of bumper yielding of mustard in the areas but he had to count loss this year.
Mojibur Rahman from Satkhira and Zaidul Haq from Khulna are also engaged with the same business for twelve years but never faced such adverse situation. They said if NGOs and govt come forward to buy honey commercially, the situation will improve.
