BEI, NBAR to hold workshop tomorrow
Friday, 20 November 2009
A workshop on 'Non-traditional Security Challenges in South Asia: 2025' will be held in the city tomorrow (Saturday).
Bangladesh Enterprise Institute (BEI) and The National Bureau of Asian Research (NBAR), a nonprofit and nonpartisan research institute based in Seattle, Washington, USA are jointly organising the workshop, the BEI said.
NBAR and BEI will bring an international team of experts to discuss emerging non-traditional security challenges in South Asia. Workshop panels will focus on three important non-traditional security concerns in the areas of food and water security, environmental security and disaster management, health and human security.
Experts will give panel presentations from Bangladesh, China, India, Nepal, Pakistan, Sri Lanka and the United States. The BEI President Farooq Sobhan and NBAR Senior Vice President Roy Kamphausen will facilitate the workshop events.
This workshop launches the first phase of NBAR's Non-traditional Security Architecture in South Asia project, sponsored by the John D and Catherine T MacArthur Foundation's Asia Security Initiative. Through this joint effort, NBAR and BEI will contribute to policymakers' understanding of the serious nature of non-traditional security issues and explore opportunities for developing viable regional security architecture to address these concerns.
